Description

Model 50 Rigids and the matching swivel casters have the same wheels displayed on Plate Model 30. The weight capacity ratings in Model 50 are usually greater for the exact wheels shown in Model 30. The heavier and bigger mounting plate on Model 50, larger swivel bearing, and heavier legs are the reasons for the greater load capacity ratings shown on rigid model 50. Rigid casters are mostly used to control the direction when moving equipment in a direct line. The one exception are rigid plate casters which have v-groove wheels. V-groove wheels rotate on an inverted angle iron track which controls the line of travel. When swivel and rigid casters are on the same piece of machinery, swivel casters should be connected below the push handle, and rigid casters should be attached to the opposite end of where the push handle is located. Rigid casters can not move sideways. They require equipment to be maneuvered into place. Our recommendation is you use 4 swivel casters when maximum mobility is required in a confined work environment.

*This Plate Caster Model 50 contains the Ductile Steel Wheel with Slight Crown Tread. The caster shown in photo with 6″ x 3″ wheel.

Ductile Steel Caster Wheels from Caster City

Caster City’s Ductile Steel Industrial Caster Wheels are designed for heavy-duty applications where loads surpass the capacity of floor-protective wheels or severe service conditions are present. Ideal for industrial and manufacturing settings where floor wear is secondary to the critical tasks performed, these wheels are available in 2”, 3”, and 4” widths and diameters ranging from 4” to 16”. With high ductility and tensile strength, our ductile steel wheels absorb shocks and impacts without failure, ensuring reliable performance in rugged environments. For precise, guided movement, we offer a V-groove design that rolls smoothly on inverted angle iron tracks, providing stable and controlled operation in demanding conditions.

These Ductile Steel Industrial Caster Wheels are built for exceptional durability, featuring either roller bearings or sealed precision ball bearings, with load ratings determined solely by bearing capacity. Each wheel includes a lubrication fitting in the hub for easy maintenance and prolonged service life. Capable of withstanding temperatures up to 400°F depending on the application, these solid steel wheels are well-suited for challenging environments. For continuous temperatures above 400°F, where steel roller bearings and spanner bushings may anneal, consult our engineering team to ensure optimal performance in high-temperature applications.

While Ductile Steel Industrial Caster Wheels excel at handling substantial loads in harsh conditions, they can damage most factory floors under heavy loads. To mitigate this, they are typically used on steel plating, in metal channels, or as V-grooved wheels on angle iron tracks to protect costly flooring. Compared to Gray Iron wheels, our ductile steel wheels offer superior ductility and tensile strength, making them the top choice for environments requiring shock absorption and reliability. Contact Caster City for custom configurations to meet your heavy-duty needs with our durable, high-capacity ductile steel wheels.
