Description
3″ Gray Polyurethane on Polyolefin. Shown in photo with 5″ wheel. Rigid Model 3 Stainless Steel is formed from stamped 304 stainless steel legs that are joined horizontally to the mounting plate. This rigid stem caster is capable of up to 300 lbs with the proper wheel selected. The diameter axle is ⅜” and has a bolt with lock nut. Other lube axle bolt is available with a lubed fitting in the bolt head for greasing the wheel. This stem caster is purchased when direct line travel is necessary over elongated distances. When moving huge cargo or extreme weighted loads, choose the biggest practical wheel diameter. High polish (mirror) finish is available upon request. This rigid caster is NSF and ROHS compliant. The mounting plate for the Stainless Steel Caster Model 3 is 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” and the hole pattern is slotted to: 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” – 3” and is built to use a mounting bolt size of 5/16”.
The Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheel is a top choice for stainless steel caster applications in demanding environments like labs, hospitals, and food processing plants. This 1.25-inch wide wheel, available in 3”, 4”, and 5” diameters, features non-marking, injection-molded polyurethane tires mechanically bonded to a polyolefin core, offered in red, gray, black, or blue colors with a Shore 60D durometer. It supports up to 300 lbs per wheel on smooth floors, operating from 32°F to 180°F, and resists many chemicals and solvents, making it ideal for washdown settings. With precision sealed ball bearings, it ensures smooth, quiet rolling while protecting floors, though it’s not suited for shock, overloading, or rough floors, and prolonged parking should not exceed 50% of its rated capacity to avoid tire damage.
FAQ

No, the non-marking polyurethane tire design of the Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheels in the Model SS-3 total locking plate caster is perfect for protecting floor surfaces in labs, hospitals, or other institutional settings.
Why are the total locking plate casters with Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheels good for institutional washdown applications?
The total locking plate casters with Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheels roll more easily than gray rubber on smooth floors, resist many chemicals and solvents, and provide smooth rolling, with the stainless steel assembly ensuring corrosion resistance and stability, making them a practical choice for washdown applications in institutional settings.
What’s the load capacity and temperature range for the Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheel in the Model SS-3 plate caster, and how do I adjust for prolonged parking or high-temperature applications?
The Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheel in the Model SS-3 plate caster supports up to 300 lbs per wheel at room temperature and operates from 32°F to 180°F; the caster can handle up to 400°F due to its raceway seals, with the TL and TB brakes being high temp compatible—don’t exceed 50% of the rated capacity for prolonged parking to avoid tire damage, and consult Caster City for extended high-temp use.
What brake options are available for the Stainless Steel Total Locking Plate Caster Model SS-3 with Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheels?
The Model SS-3 offers three stainless steel brake options: the Total Locking Brake (TL) to lock both wheel and swivel (high temp compatible), the Top Lock Brake (TB) with a metal pedal on the side (high temp compatible), and the Plastic Top Lock Brake (PTB) with a plastic pedal behind the wheel (not high temp usable due to the plastic pedal).
What are the mounting specifications for the Stainless Steel Total Locking Plate Caster Model SS-3 with Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheels?
The Model SS-3 has a mounting plate size of 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” with a slotted bolt hole pattern of 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” to 3”, designed to use 5/16” mounting bolts, ensuring secure attachment for institutional equipment like carts or tables.
Why is the total lock brake on the Model SS-3 plate caster with Polyurethane on Polyolefin Caster Wheels important for safety in hospital or lab settings?
The total lock brake on the Model SS-3 plate caster locks the swivel and wheel, fully immobilizing the stainless steel assembly to prevent movement of objects—like carts, tables, or lab equipment—when someone leans on them during tasks such as working, cleaning, or setup, ensuring safety in hospital or lab environments. Total locking casters are important because in cutting, welding, sawing, or similar tasks, people will lean against the worktable while doing their dangerous cut, and the total lock caster prevents anything in the caster from moving, totally immobilizing wheel and swivel rotation.
