Stem Casters are a type of caster wheel that mounts to equipment using a stem rather than a mounting plate and makes them ideal for applications with limited mounting space available. They come in various stem types including threaded, grip ring, expanding rubber, and metal (square/round). Each stem module type is designed to fit different tubing or frame structures and allow for smooth mobility. Stem Casters are most commonly used on carts, furniture, and medical equipment. We offer stem casters with load capacities as small as 250 lbs and as strong as 1,500 lbs, with many pedal and foot brake options available.
We have a stem caster for any need and if you cannot find the right caster, please contact us directly (Call: 800-501-3808 / Email: sales@castercity.com) and we can help you find the perfect stem and caster for your application.
We offer a wide range of caster wheels designed for various use applications, including light-duty furniture, industrial machinery, and medical equipment and more to suit your unique or different mobility needs.
Total locking brakes are a popular choice when safety and stability. We offer brakes on both stem and plate casters. These brakes are designed to lock both the wheel and the swivel at the same time, so once they’re engaged, the caster won’t roll, pivot, or move.
Total locks are widely used in a variety of settings such as warehouses, medical facilities, food service environments, and even heavy duty industrial settings. They’re the perfect caster for mobile equipment that needs to be rolled into place and then stay firmly in position carts, racks, prep tables, or mobile workstations.
If you’re not sure what kind of brake or caster setup works best for your home or business needs, our Caster City sales team is here to help. With decades of experience, we’ll guide you to the right solution for your application and make sure you get exactly what you need for the job.
Stainless steel casters, offered in both plate and stem mounting styles, are built for use in wet, corrosive, or high-temperature environments where durability and cleanliness are critical. These casters are available in both 304 and 316 stainless steel—the former offering strong corrosion resistance for general industrial and food service use, and the latter providing superior protection against harsh chemicals and saltwater, making it ideal for marine and pharmaceutical applications. Designed to handle temperatures up to 450°F when paired with high-temp wheels and raceway seals, these casters perform reliably in extreme heat such as in autoclaves or commercial ovens.
Caster City’s stainless steel casters are built with longevity and performance in mind. Each unit includes a grease fitting in the swivel bearing for easy maintenance, protective seals, and a dust cover to guard internal components from contaminants. Whether you choose 304 for its broad utility or 316 for its maximum corrosion resistance, these casters ensure smooth, low-maintenance mobility in the most demanding conditions.
These industrial pneumatic casters feature air filled pneumatic wheels. These industrial casters are designed for low speed manually moved applications only. Air filled pneumatic wheels provide a cushioned ride, shock absorption and quiet operation. Pneumatic casters are ideally suited for moving fragile or delicate cargo where caster overall height is not critical. Casters with pneumatic wheels are usually the best choice for use outdoors over rough surfaces ( i.e. gravel ) or on grass. The wide footprint on 8″ or larger pneumatic wheels provides stability on gravel and does not sink into lawns.
Pneumatic casters and pneumatic wheels are also popular for indoor use in places such as hospitals, scientific and electronic laboratories, hotels, department stores and TV or movie studios.
Pneumatic wheels with black tires do not mark the floor as long as the wheel is allowed to roll. Changing directions without allowing a swivel caster to turn gradually around, or dragging a black rubber wheel sideways, can mark some floors.
Caster City offers a wide range of office and furniture casters designed for smooth, quiet movement across carpet, tile, and hardwood floors. If you’re upgrading desk chairs, file cabinets, mobile workstations, or anything else your office needs our casters provide durability, ease of movement, and a professional finish that complements any office setup.

The RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheel features non-marking, injection-molded thermoplastic rubber (TPR) tires mechanically bonded to a polyolefin (industrial plastic) center. These wheels are a top choice for equipment in Pharmaceutical Laboratories, Hospitals, Food Service, and other Institutional applications. They deliver a softer ride than polyurethane while resisting many chemicals and solvents. Ideal for industrial settings free of shock, overloading, abuse, obstructions, poor floors, or prolonged standing loads, the RH wheel uses sealed annular ball bearings to maximize its rated capacity of up to 350 lbs per wheel (175 lbs for manual pushing).
These gray soft rubber wheels offer unmatched operating characteristics, rolling quietly, absorbing shock to extend equipment life and protect cargo, and gliding over small objects while safeguarding costly floor surfaces like tile or linoleum. They minimize vibration and are NSF-listed for food service and medical environments. However, they don’t roll easily under heavy loads, so reduce capacity ratings by 50% for manual movement and choose the largest practical wheel diameter (3”, 4”, or 5”). Avoid leaving these wheels under load for extended periods to prevent flat spots or a permanent “set.” They perform best on smooth, dry factory floors.
The bonding agent securing the TPR tire to the polyolefin core can be affected by harsh chemicals, impact, overloading, or heat buildup, so use caution in extreme conditions. Paired with the Stainless Steel Swivel Plate Caster Model SS-3, these wheels are perfect for wet or dry institutional settings, offering corrosion resistance and durability for carts, tables, or lab equipment.
What’s the RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheel made of in the Stainless Steel Swivel Plate Caster Model SS-3?
It’s a non-marking, injection-molded thermoplastic rubber (TPR) tire bonded to a polyolefin core. Softer than polyurethane, it rolls quietly, absorbs shock, and protects floors in places like hospitals or labs.
What are the best uses for the Model SS-3 stainless steel swivel caster with RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheels?
These are perfect for hospitals, pharma labs, and food service. They move carts or tables smoothly on flat floors, dry or wet, with quiet rolling and floor protection. Add the optional total lock brake for extra stability. They’re NSF-listed for medical and food settings.
What bearings are in the RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheel for the Model SS-3 swivel caster?
They come with sealed annular ball bearings. These are maintenance-free, keep dust out, and ensure smooth rolling on flat floors in places like labs or hospitals.
Can the Model SS-3 with RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheels handle rough floors?
No, these wheels are built for smooth, dry factory floors without debris. Rough floors or obstructions will damage the caster and cut its lifespan.
Are the Model SS-3 stainless steel swivel casters with RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheels okay for standing loads?
Not for long periods of time. The TPR wheels can get flat spots if left under load too long. Stick to 50% of the 350 lbs capacity (175 lbs per wheel) for parked equipment to avoid issues.
How do I keep the RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheel in the Model SS-3 from getting damaged?
Avoid shock, overloading, abuse, or rough floors. Use them in dry or wet institutional settings, and steer clear of harsh chemicals or heat buildup, which can weaken the tire’s bond to the core.
Will the RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheels in the Model SS-3 mark up floors?
No, they’re non-marking and designed to keep floors like tile or linoleum safe in hospitals, labs, or food service areas.
Why choose the Model SS-3 stainless steel swivel casters with RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheels for washdown settings?
The 304 stainless steel frame resists corrosion, and the TPR wheels handle light chemicals and water while rolling quietly and absorbing shock. They’re great for wet labs or hospitals.
What’s the load capacity and temperature range for the RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheel in the Model SS-3, and how do I manage high temps or parking?
Each wheel handles up to 350 lbs (175 lbs for manual pushing). They work in standard temps, but the caster’s seals handle up to 400°F. TL and TB brakes are high-temp compatible. For parking, don’t go over 50% capacity to avoid flat spots. Check with Caster City for high-temp needs.
What brake options come with the Model SS-3 stainless steel swivel caster with RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheels?
You get three: Total Locking Brake (TL) locks wheel and swivel (high-temp okay), Top Lock Brake (TB) has a metal pedal (high-temp okay), and Plastic Top Lock Brake (PTB) has a plastic pedal (not for high temps).
What are the mounting specs for the Model SS-3 with RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheels?
The mounting plate is 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” with a slotted bolt hole pattern of 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” to 3”. Use 5/16” bolts for secure attachment on carts or tables.
Why is the total lock brake on the Model SS-3 with RH High Capacity Soft Gray Rubber Wheels important for hospital or lab safety?
It locks both wheel and swivel, keeping carts or lab equipment rock-solid when someone leans on them during work, cleaning, or setup. Critical for tasks like cutting or welding where movement could be dangerous.
What makes the Model SS-3 stainless steel caster a solid choice for wet institutional settings?
Its 304 stainless steel build, NSF and ROHS compliance, raceway seals for up to 400°F, zerk fitting, and swivel dust cover make it durable in wet labs or hospitals. The TPR wheels add quiet, non-marking performance.
How does the Model SS-3 stainless steel caster improve stability for lab or hospital equipment?
Double ball bearing swivels ensure smooth turns, raceway seals and dust covers add durability, and brake options (TL, TB, PTB) lock equipment like carts or tables in place. The TPR wheels absorb shock and protect floors.
