Technical Specifications

Description
The Model 9 Rigid Caster is the matching plate caster for the Model 9 Swivel. When manually moving equipment that rides on 4 swivel casters it can be challenging to control the direction of travel. Rigid casters are used to control equipment being moved in a forward or backward line. Equipment with rigid casters can not move sideways. Rigids are usually installed at the opposite end of the push handle. Leg thickness measures 1/4″ and the axle diameter is 1/2″, designed to use wheels with a 2 7/16″ hub width. The caster is constructed from stamped steel. Rigid casters can support more weight than swivels because they do not have an offset, nevertheless both rigid and swivel casters are shown with the same capacity on our website. Ideal for automotive plants, job shop carts, and maintenance equipment. Other mounting plate sizes and wheel bearing types are available on request. This caster can also be ordered in 304 Stainless Steel construction.
The gray solid all polyurethane industrial caster wheel can be used indoors or outdoors and is our highest capacity all polyurethane wheel that we manufacture. The straight-sided nature of this gray all polyurethane caster wheel makes it an excellent choice for sanitary washdown applications where you have to support industrial capacities. This non-marking wheel prevents floor damage, making it ideal for medical environments, laboratories, and sanitary washdown applications. Caster City’s All Polyurethane gray “HU” industrial caster wheel is manufactured with an extra-thick polyurethane tire. The solid polyurethane construction eliminates delamination risks. The absence of a metal center eliminates bond failure, ensuring durability in wet and corrosive environments, especially when paired with stainless steel casters. This wheel is NSF and RoHS compliant. Caster City manufactures this wheel to come with a roller bearing or a sealed precision ball bearing, including needle roller bearings and Delrin bearings. This industrial caster wheel comes with a durometer of Shore 65D and the temperature range is -50° to 180°F. Its low rolling resistance ensures smooth mobility on various surfaces. Ideal for cleanrooms, food service, and heavy-duty industrial applications.
FAQ
FAQ – Questions & Answers
What is the Zinc Model 9 Rigid Caster with HU Wheel designed for?
The Zinc Model 9 Rigid Caster with HU Wheel is designed for dry environments needing stable, straight-line movement and heavy load support, such as manufacturing plants or distribution centers.
What makes the HU Heavy Duty Gray Solid Polyurethane Wheel a good choice for this caster?
The HU wheel is a solid polyurethane design with a Shore D 65 durometer and a glass-filled nylon bearing collar, offering strength, low rolling resistance, and durability for heavy loads.
Why choose the Zinc Model 9 rigid bracket for this caster?
The Zinc Model 9 rigid bracket is made of zinc-plated steel, providing strength for heavy-duty use in dry conditions, but it’s not corrosion-resistant and should be kept away from wet or corrosive environments.
What bearing options does the HU wheel support?
The HU wheel supports roller bearings, delrin bearings, or sealed precision ball bearings, with stainless steel versions available for added durability.
What is the Shore D 65 durometer, and why is it important?
The Shore D 65 durometer measures the polyurethane’s hardness, balancing durability and flexibility for low rolling resistance and wear resistance in industrial settings.
What temperature range can the HU wheel handle?
The HU wheel operates from -50° to 180° F, suitable for both cold and warm dry environments.
What maintenance does the Zinc Model 9 Rigid Caster with HU Wheel require?
Minimal maintenance is needed, with a greased fitting to keep the axle moving and sealed bearing options to reduce upkeep. Routine checks for wear are recommended.
How does the Zinc Model 9 Rigid Caster mount to equipment?
It features a 4″ x 4-1/2″ zinc-plated steel mounting plate with a bolt pattern of 2-5/8” x 3-5/8” to 3” x 3” and a ½” axle, fitting most industrial setups.
What should I know about static loads on the HU wheel?
Static loads exceeding 60% of the wheel’s capacity for extended periods may cause flat spots, so avoid overloading when parked.
Is this caster suitable for wet or corrosive environments?
No, the zinc-plated frame will corrode in wet or corrosive conditions. For those settings, consider a stainless steel model.
What if my application involves rough, powered use?
The Zinc Model 9 Rigid Caster isn’t built for abrasive, powered applications. Look at a tougher model like the G15. Call 800-501-3808 for advice.
