Description
Model 9 Rigid Caster is the matching plate caster for the Model 9 Swivel Caster. When hand powering equipment supported by 4 swivel casters it can be difficult to control the direction you are pushing or pulling. Rigid casters assist in controlling equipment being moved in straight line travel. Equipment with both rigid casters can not move sideways. Rigid Casters are usually installed at the opposite end of the push handle. Rigid Casters have 2 legs perpendicular to the mounting plate. Leg thickness is 1/4”. The axle diameter is 1/2” long and is designed to use wheels with a hub width of 2 7/16”. This caster is constructed from stamped steel. Rigid Casters can carry more weight than swivel casters because they do not have an offset. Other mounting plate sizes and wheel bearing types are available on request.
This swivel caster has a soft gray rubber wheel that is non-marking in nature and is bonded to a plastic center. The axle diameter of this caster wheel is 1/2” and the width of the wheel is 2”. Injection molded wheels such as this soft rubber wheel are not the best choice for standing loads that are moved infrequently.
*This Plate Caster Model 9 contains the Gray Soft Rubber Wheel.

This caster is available in Stainless Steel – click here. This is an excellent caster for wet or corrosive applications if your total weight exceeds 1000lbs. It comes with the same large selection of wheels, some of which are also NSF and ROHS compliant.

FAQ
FAQ – RF Soft Gray Rubber Wheel in Model 9 Caster
What environments is the RF Soft Gray Rubber Wheel best suited for?
The RF Soft Gray Rubber Wheel is ideal for Pharmaceutical Laboratories, Hospitals, Food Service, and other Institutional applications where quiet operation, floor protection, and chemical resistance are priorities.
How does the RF wheel compare to polyurethane wheels?
The RF wheel offers a softer ride than polyurethane, absorbing shock and reducing vibration, which enhances equipment life and protects cargo and floors.
What are the main benefits of the RF wheel in the Model 9 caster?
Pairing the RF wheel with the Model 9 caster provides a non-marking, quiet, and shock-absorbing solution with precision sealed ball bearings that require no maintenance, perfect for sensitive environments.
Are there any limitations to the RF wheel?
Yes, it’s not suited for shock, overloading, abuse, obstructions, poor floors, or prolonged standing loads, as it may develop flat spots. It’s also harder to roll under load—reduce capacity by 50% for manual movement.
Why is the Model 9 caster so popular for industrial use?
The Model 9 caster is favored for its low cost, wide wheel options, and rugged design, featuring 2 rows of balls on heat-treated raceways and a welded nut and bolt kingpin for durability.
Can I use the Model 9 caster with the RF wheel in wet or corrosive conditions?
The standard zinc-plated Model 9 will rust in wet or corrosive environments. Opt for the Stainless Steel Model 9, made from 304 stainless steel, for those conditions.
What maintenance do the RF wheel and Model 9 caster require?
The RF wheel’s precision sealed ball bearings need no maintenance. The Model 9 swivel caster has lubrication fittings for its moving parts, keeping maintenance simple.
What bearings come with the RF wheel?
The RF wheel features precision sealed ball bearings, offering maintenance-free, quiet, and smooth performance.
How do I choose the right RF wheel diameter for manual movement?
For easier manual movement, reduce the load capacity by 50% and select the largest practical wheel diameter to improve rolling efficiency.
