Description

5″ Phenolic Wheel. Shown in photo with 6″ x 2″ wheel. Stainless Steel rigid Caster Model 9 is made of 304 stainless using a stamped steel construction and is excellent for corrosive applications. The mounting plate and legs of the caster are ¼” thick 304 stainless steel. This 304 stainless caster is NSF and ROHS standard compliant. This stainless steel rigid caster uses a 1/2” diameter axle. Rigid casters are most commonly selected when price is a factor, or if you need to travel in a straight line over long distances. This Stainless Steel Model 9 caster performs best if you limit the load to no more than 1200 lbs per rigid caster.

Caster City Phenolic wheels are a hard composition caster wheel which are non-marking in nature, making them excellent for supporting heavy stationary loads for long periods of time. Phenolic can not develop a flat spot if left parked for a long period under load, and the wheel is capable of withstanding shock loads and the impacts of small obstructions. Phenolic can absorb water and other chemicals if excessive exposure occurs. Phenolic caster wheels come standard with a roller bearing and have precision sealed ball bearings as an option. This wheel comes in diameters ranging from 3” to 18” and the width of the wheels ranges from 1-¼” to 4”. A phenolic wheel has a temperature range is -40° to +250° F and a Durometer of Shore D 90. Phenolic Caster Wheels from Caster City

Our Phenolic Caster Wheels, made from macerated canvas mixed with phenolic resin and molded under high pressure and temperature are a cost-effective, hard-composition, non-marking solution ideal for supporting heavy stationary loads that move infrequently. With a hardness comparable to polished maple flooring and a Durometer of Shore D 90, these wheels are designed to handle large loads comparable to metal wheels without developing flat spots, even when parked for prolonged periods under load. Available in diameters from 3” to 18” and widths from 1-¼” to 4”, they come standard with roller bearings or optional precision sealed ball bearings, making them perfect for smooth concrete surfaces in industrial settings like warehouses or manufacturing facilities.

These phenolic caster wheels are highly resistant to oil, grease, gasoline, and mild acids, and can withstand shock loads and impacts from small obstructions. They are recommended for storage loads without permanent set and offer slight floor wear, except on already deteriorating surfaces. For enhanced performance, a laminated unmacerated tread option provides 25% more capacity and greater chip resistance, though the wheel material may chip or cut from contact with steel plates or rough surfaces. With a temperature range of -40°F to +250°F, and intermittent use up to 300°F, these wheels are built for durability in dry environments where they excel in supporting heavy static loads.

While Phenolic Caster Wheels are tough and versatile, they are not suitable for wet applications or environments with excessive exposure to water, oil, or chemicals, as they can slowly absorb these substances and fail over time. For applications involving routine moisture or strong acids and alkaline solutions, consider alternative wheel materials. Ideal for dry, high-capacity settings requiring impact resistance and floor protection, these wheels are a reliable, economical choice. Contact Caster City at 800-501-3808 for assistance with custom configurations or to place an order for our durable Phenolic Caster Wheels.

It also offers SL4 – Welded Stainless Steel Swivel Lock (turns swivel into rigid for straight lines or ramps) and RS – Raceway Seals to protect from harsh environments.

How do I maintain the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?

Lubricate the swivel bearing and axle regularly with the fittings to keep it moving smooth, and clean off debris after washdowns. Avoid leaving heavy loads sitting long, shocks, or harsh hits to keep it performing in wet spots.

Where can I buy the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 with PB Polyolefin Wheel?

Get the Model 9 stainless caster from Caster City’s website at www.castercity.com or call 800-501-3808. Lead time is usually 2 days for fast delivery.

How does the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 compare to Model 3 or G15?

The Model 9 heavy duty stainless steel caster is a step up from our Stainless Steel Caster Model 3 plate casters, supporting up to 1200 lbs per caster depending on the wheel. It has two rows of ball bearings for axial and thrust loads, a 5/8″ nut and bolt kingpin welded together for manual abuse, and is made of 1/2″ thick stamped 304 stainless steel. If your setup is abrasive or powered, check the G15 model—it handles up to 1500 lbs with the same wheels, and some wheels rate higher on it due to tougher build. Call 800-501-3808 for help.

What’s the difference between swivel and rigid versions of the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?

Swivel versions of this stainless swivel caster have full rotation for maneuvering, with a cold-forged top plate, yoke base, welded legs, and 5/8″ kingpin. Rigid casters don’t swivel, made from 1/4″ thick 304 stamped stainless steel for the plate and legs, with a 1/2″ axle bolt. Pick rigid when price matters or for straight-line travel over long distances or ramps—install them opposite the push handle for better steering. Both are NSF and ROHS compliant, great for corrosive washdowns like food processing.

What wheel options are available for the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?

This caster has a broad selection of 2″ wide wheels that are NSF and ROHS compliant, including polyolefin (like PB), gray soft rubber, neoprene, polyurethane varieties, nylon, phenolic, high-temp options, V-groove, water-resistant polyurethane, and solid stainless steel. Diameters from 4″ to 8″.

Is the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 suitable for total locking?

Yes, the Model 9 total lock stainless caster offers a TL – Total Locking Brake option, with the pedal behind the wheel to lock both swivel and wheel rotation. It’s not for holding on inclines, but great for securing in wet or corrosive setups.

What is the swivel radius and overall height for the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?

The swivel radius is 3 1/2″ to 6 1/4″ depending on the wheel size, and it goes up to 6 1/2″ or 7 1/2″ if you add the total lock brake. Overall height is 5 5/8″ for 4″ wheels, 6 1/2″ for 5″, 7 1/2″ for 6″, and 9 1/2″ for 8″.

What construction details make the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 durable?

The swivel has a cold forged top plate and yoke base from 1/4″ stainless steel, with 1/4″ thick legs welded inside and out. It uses a 1/2” diameter hollow bolt axle with lock nut, and comes with grease fittings for both swivel and wheel bearings.
