Technical Specifications

Description
Rigid Plate Model 9 Caster is the matching plate caster for the Plate Caster Model Swivel 9. When hand powering machinery supported by 4 swivel casters it can be tough to control the direction you are pushing or pulling. Rigid casters assist in controlling equipment being moved in straight line travel. Equipment with both rigid casters can not move sideways. Rigid Casters are usually installed at the opposite end of the push handle and contain 2 legs perpendicular to the mounting plate. Leg thickness is 1/4”. The axle diameter is 1/2” long and is designed to use wheels with a hub width of 2 7/16”. This caster is constructed from stamped steel. Rigid Casters can carry more weight than swivels because they do not have an offset. Other mounting plate sizes and wheel bearing types are available on request.
The UAO/UAC Crown Tread Polyurethane on Aluminum Hub Wheel is a non-marking industrial wheel for heavy duty casters, featuring a hard crown tread high quality polyurethane tire with a 90 Shore A durometer, chemically and mechanically bonded to a durable aluminum hub, available in orange or green, designed to efficiently change directions while supporting heavy loads up to 1,000 lbs, offering higher capacity and more floor protection than hard composition wheels or metal wheels, and rolling easier than conventional rubber caster wheels on smooth floors. Available in 4”, 5”, 6”, and 8” diameters, this industrial caster wheel uses a large crown tread and a counter bored hub with precision sealed ball bearings to minimize surface friction, requiring less effort to start up, turn, and maintain a rolling load, operating within a temperature range of -40°F to 180°F, ideal for dry factory floors where its lighter weight and higher aesthetic value compared to polyurethane on iron wheels enhance its appeal.
This aluminum caster wheel in heavy duty industrial casters provides a balance of durability and performance, protecting floors better than metal wheels while withstanding impacts and heavy loads, though it’s not suited for shock, overloading, abuse, or prolonged standing loads, as the bonding agent holding the polyurethane tire to the aluminum center can be affected by exposure to some chemicals, impact, overloading, or heat buildup from continuous usage. The UAO/UAC Crown Tread Polyurethane on Aluminum Hub Wheel is a reliable choice for industrial applications where heavy duty casters need to handle moderate loads with ease, ensuring minimal vibration and prolonged equipment life, making it a top pick for material handling carts, warehouse equipment, and other manually operated setups requiring a semi-cushioned, low-effort rolling experience with an attractive appearance.
*This Plate Caster Model 9 contains the Orange Crown Tread Polyurethane on Aluminum with Precision Sealed Ball Bearings in the Wheel.

FAQ
What is the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
The Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 is an industrial plate caster with plate mount, handling up to 1,200 pounds per caster. It has a top plate size of 4″ x 4 1/2″, bolt hole spacing from 2-5/8″ x 3-5/8″ to 3″ x 3″, and uses 3/8″ mounting bolts. Made from 1/2″ thick 304 stainless steel, it features a 5/8″ welded kingpin, 1/2″ stainless steel axle, lubrication fittings, and is built for wet and corrosive spots like food processing, pharma plants, and marine use.
What environments and applications work best for the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
This heavy duty stainless steel caster is made for wet and corrosive environments, like food processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing, marine settings, hospitals, labs, water treatment facilities, and automotive or aerospace plants. It handles tasks such as heavy ingredient carts, cleanroom transport, dock cargo carts, mobile processing equipment, sterile movers, container transport in chemical plants (with acids below 10%), fish processing gear, heavy medical equipment like MRI machines, hazardous material carts, and chemical feed systems. The 304 stainless steel frame resists rust and chemicals, perfect for washdowns, and meets NSF and ROHS standards.
What is the load capacity of the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
The Model 9 supports up to 1200 lbs per caster, but it depends on the wheel you pick. It’s rated for manual use on smooth floors, no steep inclines over 3 degrees, and speeds under 3 mph.
What bearing options are available for the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 with PB Polyolefin Wheel?
For the Model 9 stainless caster with PB Polyolefin Wheel, you can choose roller bearings (R), Delrin bearings (D), plain bore (P), ball bearings (BB), precision sealed ball bearings (PS), stainless precision sealed ball bearings (SPS), or stainless steel roller bearings (SSR). These let you customize for wet environments.
Why choose the PB Polyolefin Wheel for the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
The 304 stainless steel frame resists rust and chemicals, making it great for wet spots with frequent cleaning. The polyolefin wheel handles water, mild acids (below 10%), grease, and oils, so it fits labs and food service well, but skip it for high-acid stuff.
What brake options does the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 have?
The SS-9 stainless swivel caster has three braking options: TB – Top Lock Brake (pedal on side of wheel), TL – Total Locking Brake (pedal behind wheel, locks swivel and wheel), and TKB – Plastic High Temp Top Lock Brake (pedal behind wheel). It also offers SL4 – Welded Stainless Steel Swivel Lock (turns swivel into rigid for straight lines or ramps) and RS – Raceway Seals to protect from harsh environments.
How do I maintain the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
Lubricate the swivel bearing and axle regularly with the fittings to keep it moving smooth, and clean off debris after washdowns. Avoid leaving heavy loads sitting long, shocks, or harsh hits to keep it performing in wet spots.
Where can I buy the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 with PB Polyolefin Wheel?
Get the Model 9 stainless caster from Caster City’s website at www.castercity.com or call 800-501-3808. Lead time is usually 2 days for fast delivery.
How does the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 compare to Model 3 or G15?
The Model 9 heavy duty stainless steel caster is a step up from our Stainless Steel Caster Model 3 plate casters, supporting up to 1200 lbs per caster depending on the wheel. It has two rows of ball bearings for axial and thrust loads, a 5/8″ nut and bolt kingpin welded together for manual abuse, and is made of 1/2″ thick stamped 304 stainless steel. If your setup is abrasive or powered, check the G15 model—it handles up to 1500 lbs with the same wheels, and some wheels rate higher on it due to tougher build. Call 800-501-3808 for help.
What’s the difference between swivel and rigid versions of the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
Swivel versions of this stainless swivel caster have full rotation for maneuvering, with a cold-forged top plate, yoke base, welded legs, and 5/8″ kingpin. Rigid casters don’t swivel, made from 1/4″ thick 304 stamped stainless steel for the plate and legs, with a 1/2″ axle bolt. Pick rigid when price matters or for straight-line travel over long distances or ramps—install them opposite the push handle for better steering. Both are NSF and ROHS compliant, great for corrosive washdowns like food processing.
What wheel options are available for the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
This caster has a broad selection of 2″ wide wheels that are NSF and ROHS compliant, including polyolefin (like PB), gray soft rubber, neoprene, polyurethane varieties, nylon, phenolic, high-temp options, V-groove, water-resistant polyurethane, and solid stainless steel. Diameters from 4″ to 8″.
Is the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 suitable for total locking?
Yes, the Model 9 total lock stainless caster offers a TL – Total Locking Brake option, with the pedal behind the wheel to lock both swivel and wheel rotation. It’s not for holding on inclines, but great for securing in wet or corrosive setups.

The swivel radius is 3 1/2″ to 6 1/4″ depending on the wheel size, and it goes up to 6 1/2″ or 7 1/2″ if you add the total lock brake. Overall height is 5 5/8″ for 4″ wheels, 6 1/2″ for 5″, 7 1/2″ for 6″, and 9 1/2″ for 8″.
What construction details make the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 durable?
The swivel has a cold forged top plate and yoke base from 1/4″ stainless steel, with 1/4″ thick legs welded inside and out. It uses a 1/2” diameter hollow bolt axle with lock nut, and comes with grease fittings for both swivel and wheel bearings.
Can the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 handle high temperatures?
Yeah, it can with the right wheels like high temp glass filled nylon or high temp phenolic fiberglass, but check the max capacity—it drops if you’re running over 40 minutes at peak temps. Consult if needed.
What installation tips are there for the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
Make sure rigid casters are parallel to each other, swivels are parallel to the floor, and use at least 4 bolts on the mounting plate. Don’t distort the swivel bearing during install, like from bad welding, and avoid dragging sideways or dropping loads hard.
What’s the weight of the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9 swivel version?
It weighs 5 to 8 lbs for most setups, up to 12 lbs if you go with solid stainless steel wheels. Knock off 1 lb for the rigid version.
What is 304 stainless steel in the Stainless Steel Caster Model 9?
304 stainless steel is the most common stainless out there, an austenitic alloy with about 18% chromium and 8% nickel—often called 18/8 stainless. It gives excellent corrosion resistance against rust and chemicals, which is why it’s used for the frame in the Model 9, making it perfect for wet and corrosive spots like food processing or pharma plants. It’s also NSF and ROHS compliant for hygiene standards.
