Description
Dumpster Casters made from Model 9 rigid dumpster casters are the matching plate caster for the Swivel Model 9 Caster. When manually moving equipment supported by 4 swivel casters it can be difficult to control the direction you are pushing or pulling. Rigid casters support in controlling equipment being moved in straight line travel. Equipment with both rigid casters can not move sideways. Rigid Casters are usually installed at the opposite end of the push handle and contain 2 legs perpendicular to the mounting plate. Leg thickness is 1/4”. The axle diameter is 1/2” long and is designed to use wheels with a hub width of 2 7/16”. This caster is constructed from stamped steel. Rigids can carry more weight than swivel casters because they do not have an offset. Other mounting plate sizes and wheel bearing types are available on request.
Gray Iron industrial caster wheels from Caster City are a cost-effective and reliable choice for light-duty applications, offering a low initial cost and maintenance ease. These wheels, equipped with a lubrication fitting in the hub, won’t go flat and are perfect for stationary loads or infrequent movement, like light-duty warehouse carts, stationary machinery, or display stands. Available in 2” and 3” widths with diameters from 3” to 12”, they feature roller bearings or sealed ball bearings and can handle temperatures up to 400°F. Their chemical resistance and inability to develop flat spots make them ideal for stable, low-impact setups where budget matters.
However, Gray Iron wheels aren’t suited for heavy-duty or abusive conditions due to their limited capacity and impact strength compared to Ductile Steel or Forged Steel wheels. They can damage factory floors under heavy loads, so they’re best used on steel plates, in channels, or as V-groove wheels on inverted angle iron tracks. For heavy-duty carts or applications needing floor protection, consider switching to Ductile Steel, Forged Steel, or polyurethane wheels. Gray Iron wheels shine in controlled environments but fall short where high durability or frequent movement is required.
*This Plate Caster Model 9 contains the Gray Iron with Roller Bearing in the Wheel.

Gray Iron Caster Wheels from Caster City

The Gray Iron Industrial Caster Wheels we engineer at Caster City are a low-cost solution primarily chosen for their affordability, offering a budget-friendly option for applications where cost is a priority and floor protection is not a concern. Available in 2” and 3” widths with diameters ranging from 3” to 12”, these wheels are equipped with a lubrication fitting in the hub for easy maintenance and come with either roller bearings or sealed precision ball bearings for reliable performance. Designed to support heavy loads without developing flat spots, Gray Iron wheels are a practical choice for static or low-mobility applications in industrial settings, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 400°F depending on the application.
While Gray Iron Caster Wheels provide an economical alternative, they are not recommended for severe or abusive applications due to their lower strength compared to steel wheels. For only a modest increase in cost, we recommend our steel wheels, which offer nearly twice the strength and durability. Gray Iron wheels will damage most factory floors under heavy loads, so they are typically used on steel plating, in metal channels, or as V-grooved wheels rolling on inverted angle iron tracks to protect costly flooring. These wheels are best suited for environments where budget constraints outweigh the need for enhanced performance or floor preservation.
Ideal for cost-conscious applications requiring reliable load support, Gray Iron Industrial Caster Wheels deliver functionality at a low initial cost. However, for superior strength and longevity, we encourage customers to consider our steel wheel options. Contact Caster City to discuss your needs or for custom configurations of our Gray Iron Caster Wheels, ensuring you get the most cost-effective solution for your industrial requirements.
