Description
4″ Polyurethane.Swivel Bearing Seal & Grease Fitting. Shown in photo with 5″ wheels. This Model 3 stainless steel stem caster is formed from 304 stainless stamped steel. This stainless steel stem caster uses a ⅜” diameter axle and the swivel caster raceway is held together by a ½” diameter rivet. The stainless steel stem caster’s brackets hold two rows of balls which change direction more easily. There is a solid cover over the swivel raceways to shield them from dirt and dust. The Stainless Steel Stem Caster Model 3 performs best if you limit the load to no more than 1000 lbs on a set of 4 Model 3 casters.
This solid all polyurethane industrial caster wheel was developed for sanitary and washdown applications, and is capable of rolling indoors or outdoors. The blue all polyurethane (“AP”) caster wheel is manufactured in 1-¼” wide and with diameters ranging from 3”-5”. Caster City manufactures this 1-1/4″ wide (“AP”) blue all polyurethane wheel to come with a steel spanner bushing which is available in stainless steel as well upon request. The temperature range of this industrial caster wheel is -50°to 180° F and the durometer of the polyurethane is Shore 60D.
These wheels are non marking and non conductive. The absence of a metal center eliminates bond failure as a cause for wheel replacement. These caster wheels are especially suited for use with stainless steel casters in wet and corrosive applications. They are designed for use in Pharmaceutical Laboratories, Hospitals, and Food Processing Plants – wherever a clean sanitary design is desired. These wheels are not recommended for applications involving shock, overloading, abuse, obstructions, poor floors, or for storage (standing) loads.
These wheels are designed for use in a wet environment and they eliminate the possibility of tire separation.

What stem types are available for the Stainless Steel Swivel Stem Caster Model SS-3 with AP Solid All Polyurethane Wheels?
The Model SS-3 is compatible with grip ring stems, threaded stems, round stems, square stems, stems with cross holes (both round and square), and expanding rubber stems, providing versatile mounting options for institutional equipment like carts or tables in labs or hospitals.
Why is the optional total lock brake on the Model SS-3 stem caster with AP Solid All Polyurethane Wheels important for safety in hospital or lab settings?
The optional total lock brake on the Model SS-3 stem caster locks the swivel and wheel, fully immobilizing the stainless steel assembly to prevent movement of objects—like carts, tables, or lab equipment—when someone leans on them during tasks such as working, cleaning, or setup, ensuring safety in hospital or lab environments. Total locking casters are important because in cutting, welding, sawing, or similar tasks, people will lean against the worktable while doing their dangerous cut, and the total lock caster prevents anything in the caster from moving, totally immobilizing wheel and swivel rotation.
What makes the Model SS-3 light-duty stainless steel industrial stem caster a trusted choice for institutional applications in wet settings?
The Model SS-3 light-duty stainless steel industrial stem caster is a trusted choice for wet institutional settings due to its 304 stainless steel construction, NSF and ROHS compliance, raceway seals for high-temp use up to 400°F, zerk fitting, and dust cover for the swivel bearing, offering corrosion resistance and durability for washdown environments like labs or hospitals.
How does the Model SS-3 light-duty stainless steel industrial stem caster enhance stability for lab or hospital equipment in institutional settings?
The Model SS-3 light-duty stainless steel industrial stem caster enhances stability for lab or hospital equipment with its double ball bearing swivel for smooth rotation, raceway seals and dust cover for durability, and brake options like TL, TB, and PTB to secure equipment—like carts or tables—firmly in place during operations, ensuring safety in institutional settings.
