Plate Mount Caster

A plate mount caster attaches via a flat metal top plate with pre-drilled bolt holes, bolted directly to the underside of equipment — the most common mounting style for carts, machinery bases, and furniture with a flat mounting surface.

What a plate mount caster is

Plate sizes in the catalog range from 2-3/8″ x 2-3/8″ up to 8-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, and the bolt-hole pattern must match the equipment exactly. Spreading the mounting load across multiple bolts generally makes plate mounting more rigid than a single-point stem mount, especially for heavier loads.

When it matters

Any equipment with a flat frame member to bolt into — the default choice for heavier carts, machinery bases, and industrial equipment.

What to check / common mistakes

Ordering without measuring. The single most common return reason for plate casters — always measure the plate’s length, width, and bolt-hole spacing against the equipment before ordering, not just “the caster looks about right.”

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure for a plate caster?

Measure the plate's length and width, and the bolt-hole spacing center to center, against the existing mounting surface or bolt pattern.

Can I mount a bigger plate on smaller equipment?

Not safely without a matching bolt pattern — an oversized plate with mismatched holes won't seat correctly.

Plate vs. stem — which is more common?

Plate mount is standard for equipment built with a flat frame member; stem mount is standard where the leg is a tube or a drilled/tapped hole.
