A caster's load capacity rating is the maximum weight it's rated to carry, tested under specific conditions (usually static or slow-rolling). It's a per-caster number, not the total weight your equipment can carry.
Ratings in the catalog span from around 105 lbs on light stem casters up to 40,000 lbs on heavy industrial plate casters. The rating reflects the whole assembly — wheel, bearing, and mount all factor in, and the lowest-rated component sets the ceiling.

Confusing per-caster rating with total equipment capacity. A 500 lb-rated caster doesn’t mean 2,000 lbs of equipment is fine on 4 of them — see load per caster for the actual math and safety factor.
Is load capacity rating the same for all 4 casters on a cart?
It should match, or at minimum every caster used should meet or exceed the required per-caster load — mismatched capacities create an uneven weak point.
Does load capacity rating include shock loads?
Not usually — standard ratings assume steady, non-shock loading. See shock load for how sudden impacts change the picture.
