Cast Iron Wheel

A cast iron (gray iron) wheel is a solid metal wheel built for very heavy loads and high-temperature environments where rubber or polyurethane would soften or fail.

What a cast iron wheel is

Cast iron handles heat and extreme load well but offers no cushioning at all — it’s loud, hard on floors, and reserved for applications where those tradeoffs are acceptable.

When it matters

Foundries, high-heat processing, and extremely heavy loads exceeding what non-metal wheel materials can handle.

What to check / common mistakes

Choosing cast iron for standard applications. It’s a specialty choice for heat or extreme load — most general industrial use is better served by polyurethane or phenolic.

Frequently asked questions

Why choose cast iron over polyurethane?

Mainly for high-heat environments or extreme loads where polyurethane would soften or degrade.

Is cast iron floor-friendly?

No — it's one of the harshest options on floors and among the loudest, reserved for applications where those tradeoffs are necessary.
