Noise-Reducing Wheel

A noise-reducing (low-noise) wheel uses softer tread compounds and construction specifically chosen to minimize rolling noise — common in hospitals, hotels, offices, and other noise-sensitive environments.

What a noise-reducing wheel is

Softer durometer rubber and polyurethane wheels absorb more sound and vibration than hard wheels, which is why noise-sensitive applications generally trade some load capacity or rolling ease for a quieter compound.

When it matters

Hospitals, hotels, offices, and any environment where rolling noise is disruptive to occupants.

What to check / common mistakes

Choosing based on capacity alone in a noise-sensitive setting. A high-capacity hard wheel can be significantly louder than a softer option — factor in noise level as its own spec where it matters.

Frequently asked questions

Are rubber wheels always quieter than polyurethane?

Generally yes, though within each material, softer (lower durometer) options are quieter than harder ones of the same type.

Do noise-reducing wheels sacrifice load capacity?

Often somewhat, yes — quieter, softer compounds typically carry less than harder, louder ones. It's a tradeoff to weigh against the noise requirement.
