Swivel radius is the distance from a caster's swivel centerline to its outermost point while rotating — effectively the footprint it needs to turn freely without hitting the equipment frame.
Listed on spec sheets so you can check clearance before installing. A caster with a large wheel or offset yoke needs more swivel radius than a compact one of the same capacity.
Any time a caster is being fitted to equipment with a tight frame, low clearance, or recessed mounting area — insufficient swivel radius binds the caster mid-turn.
