Total Lock (Dual Brake)

A total lock (dual brake) caster locks both the swivel action and the wheel rotation at the same time, holding equipment completely stationary — useful anywhere a cart or fixture needs to stay fully put during use.

What a total lock (dual brake) is

Where a swivel lock or wheel brake alone only stops one type of motion, total lock stops both — common at checkout counters, treatment stations, and workstations where the equipment truly can’t move while in use.

When it matters

Checkout counters, treatment/exam stations, workstations, and any fixture that needs to be fully immobile during use, not just directionally controlled.

What to check / common mistakes

Using a swivel-only or brake-only caster where full immobility is actually needed. If the equipment must not move at all during use, total lock is the right spec, not a partial locking mechanism.

Frequently asked questions

Is total lock the same as a wheel brake?

No — a wheel brake alone stops rolling but not swiveling. Total lock stops both at once.

Can total lock casters still swivel and roll when unlocked?

Yes — total lock is engaged and released as needed, functioning as a normal swivel caster when not locked.
