Technical Specifications

Description
Plate Caster Model 3 is made using a stamped steel construction and is bright zinc plated for corrosion resistance. The mounting plate is 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” and the hole pattern is slotted to: 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” – 3” and is designed to use a mounting bolt size of 5/16”. This plate caster uses a ⅜” diameter axle and the swivel caster is held together by a 1⁄2” diameter rivet. This institutional plate caster is constructed with two ball bearings on hardened raceways to ensure life of the caster. There is a metal dust cap protecting the swivel raceways to shield them from dirt and dust. Features wheels with 1-¼” and 1-1⁄2” tread widths. This Zinc Plated caster is NSF listed.
Caster City manufactures this plate caster in Stainless Steel Caster Model 3. This caster comes standard with two high temperature white seals in the swivel bearing that has a temperature range of -20F to 450F. Also come with a grease fitting on the dust cover and axle, and buffed to a smooth reflective surface.
Caster City also manufactures this plate caster in Economy Stainless Steel Plate Caster Model K3. Constructed with S304 stainless steel and comes with no dust cap or grease fitting on the swivel making it economically efficient for most applications.
Black Donut Polyolefin Caster Wheels are injection molded from a blend of thermoplastic polymers forming a one piece solid sanitary design. This wheel comes with a shielded ball bearing, and these Polyolefin wheels are especially suited for wet and corrosive applications. They are very resistant to most commonly encountered liquids. Polyolefin wheels have a lower capacity and a more limited temperature range than Nylon wheels. In a cold dry environment, such as a refrigerated store room, Polyolefin wheels may become brittle. They should not be used in a freezer or a heat application above 180°F intermittent usage, such as a rack washer. Polyolefin wheels can not develop a flat spot when parked for prolonged periods.
This donut shaped wheel comes with sealed ball bearings in the wheel. It’s tread shape enables it to change directions much more easily.

FAQ
Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheel
What is the PB Polyolefin Wheel on the Plate Caster Model 3?
The PB Polyolefin Wheel is a non-marking, injection-molded thermoplastic polymer wheel with a donut-shaped, crowned tread for ergonomic performance. Featuring precision sealed ball bearings, a 1-1/4” or 2” tread width, and 350 lbs capacity, it’s resistant to most liquids and ideal for sanitary settings like hospitals, food processing plants, or pharmaceutical labs, with a hard composition that prevents flat spotting.
Why choose PB Polyolefin Wheels for sanitary applications?
The PB Wheel’s one-piece sanitary design, non-marking polyolefin material, and liquid resistance make it NSF-rated for dry or lightly wet settings. With a crowned tread and sealed bearings for easy rolling at 350 lbs, it’s perfect for carts in hospitals, food processing plants, or labs.
How does the crowned tread make the PB Polyolefin Wheel ergonomic?
The PB Wheel’s donut-shaped, crowned tread creates point contact with the floor, reducing push/pull forces and easing direction changes. This ergonomic design minimizes user strain, ideal for carts in hospitals, labs, or food processing plants on smooth floors.
How easy is it to push the Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheels?
The PB Wheel rolls very easily, even at 350 lbs capacity, due to its precision sealed ball bearings and ergonomic crowned tread, making manual pushing effortless on smooth floors in labs, hospitals, or food processing plants.
Can PB Polyolefin Wheels handle liquids in food processing plants?
Yes, the polyolefin material resists most commonly encountered liquids, suitable for lightly wet environments in food processing plants or hospitals. For washdown settings, pair with a stainless steel frame to avoid rust on the zinc-plated frame.
Can PB Polyolefin Wheels handle chemicals in pharmaceutical labs?
Yes, the polyolefin wheel resists many chemicals and solvents in dry or lightly wet lab settings, making it ideal for pharmaceutical labs. Avoid harsh chemicals to maintain the wheel’s sanitary performance.
How does the PB Polyolefin Wheel’s hard composition prevent flat spotting?
The PB Wheel’s hard polyolefin composition resists deformation, preventing flat spots even when parked under heavy loads for long periods, ensuring reliable performance in sanitary settings like labs or food processing plants.
Are PB Polyolefin Wheels suitable for rough floors?
No, these polyolefin wheels are designed for smooth, dry or lightly wet floors without obstructions. They’re ideal for sanitary settings like labs, hospitals, or food processing plants, not rough or abusive environments.
Do PB Polyolefin Wheels on the Plate Caster Model 3 require maintenance?
No, the precision sealed ball bearings are maintenance-free, ensuring smooth rolling. Regularly inspect for wear and clean to maintain hygiene and longevity in sanitary settings like food processing or labs.
What are the mounting specs for the Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheels?
The Plate Caster Model 3 has a 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” top plate with a slotted bolt hole pattern of 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” to 3”, using 5/16” bolts, fitting standard carts or shelving in sanitary settings.
Can the Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheels be used in wet environments?
The polyolefin wheel resists liquids, but the zinc-plated frame isn’t suited for prolonged wet or washdown conditions. Use a stainless steel frame for wet environments like food processing or hospitals to prevent rust.
Is the Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheels NSF-rated for food service?
Yes, both the Plate Caster Model 3 and the PB Wheel are NSF-rated, making them ideal for food service, hospitals, or pharmaceutical labs where hygiene and liquid resistance are critical.
How do I replace the PB Polyolefin Wheel on the Plate Caster Model 3?
Match the wheel’s diameter (3”, 3.5”, 4”, or 5”), 1-1/4” or 2” tread width, and 3/8” axle. Choose a polyolefin wheel with a donut-shaped, crowned tread and precision sealed ball bearings for the same ergonomic, non-marking performance.
How do PB Polyolefin Wheels compare to nylon wheels for sanitary casters?
PB Polyolefin Wheels offer a sanitary, one-piece design and liquid resistance, but have a lower capacity and narrower temperature range than nylon wheels. They prevent flat spotting and are ideal for hospitals or food processing, while nylon suits higher loads and broader temperatures.
What are the advantages of the swivel design in the Plate Caster Model 3?
The swivel design features two ball bearings on hardened raceways and a metal dust cap, ensuring smooth 360-degree movement and protecting the raceways from dirt and dust in sanitary settings like labs or food processing plants.
Can PB Polyolefin Wheels handle heavy loads in hospital settings?
Yes, the PB Wheel supports up to 350 lbs per wheel and resists flat spotting, making it reliable for heavy carts in hospitals or labs, provided loads are on smooth floors and avoid shock or abuse.
