Description

The SS316-9 Industrial Caster Model 9 bracket is engineered for highly corrosive environments where durability, hygiene, and corrosion resistance are paramount. Crafted from 1/2″ thick stamped 316 stainless steel enhanced with 2-3% molybdenum and higher nickel content, it delivers superior protection against chlorides, acids, and harsh cleaning agents compared to 304 stainless, making it essential for marine applications, chemical processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing facilities (especially those using caustic cleaners or high salt), water treatment operations, and any setting with routine exposure to aggressive elements. The swivel design features a double ball raceway secured by a welded 5/8″ stainless steel nut and bolt kingpin, lubrication fittings in the swivel bearing and 1/2″ stainless steel axle, rubber seals on the swivel bearing for contaminant protection, and optional brakes like the swivel lock, total lock, or top lock brake (-TB) with a side pedal for secure stationary use. Rigid models provide fixed-direction stability, and the mounting plate measures 4″ x 4-1/2″ with a bolt hole pattern of 2-5/8″ x 3-5/8″ to 3″ x 3″.

These rugged cold-forged caster brackets are recommended only for manually moved, hand-powered applications, offering a step up from the 316 Stainless Steel Model 3 with higher capacity and durability, though for mechanically powered or abusive uses, the Model G15 (up to 1500 lbs) is advised. Meeting NSF and ROHS standards for hygiene, they feature an electrolytic finish for smoothness and sanitary design, ideal for maintaining equipment integrity in the harshest conditions without pitting or crevice corrosion.

While 316 stainless commands a higher price than 304, its enhanced resistance reduces maintenance and extends service life, justifying the cost where failure can’t be tolerated. Available online at Caster City with fast lead times, contact us at 800-501-3808.

These wheels are non marking and non conductive. The absence of a metal center eliminates bond failure as a cause for wheel replacement. These caster wheels are especially suited for use with stainless steel casters in wet and corrosive applications. They are designed for use in Pharmaceutical Laboratories, Hospitals, and Food Processing Plants – wherever a clean sanitary design is desired. These wheels are not recommended for applications involving shock, overloading, abuse, obstructions, poor floors, or for storage (standing) loads. Hardness is 60 – 65 Durometer Shore D. Temperature range is -20° to 180° F.

These wheels are designed for use in a wet environment and they eliminate the possibility of tire separation.

If a static load on this tire exceeds 60% of the rated capacity and is left unmoved for a prolonged period of time, the tire may develop a flat spot. Durometer : Shore D 60.

  • Water treatment: Carts in chlorine-rich environments, wastewater facility equipment
  • Coastal facilities: Carts for seafood processing, outdoor washdown carts
  • Laboratories: Carts for chemical labs, equipment in caustic cleaning areas

FAQ

FAQ for 316 Stainless Steel Casters (Model 9)

Why should I choose 316 stainless steel casters over 304 stainless steel casters?
316 stainless steel casters, like our Model 9, are made for harsh environments where 304 won’t hold up. The 2-3% molybdenum in 316 provides superior resistance to chlorides, acids, and caustic cleaning agents. This makes it essential for marine applications, chemical processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing facilities (especially those using caustic cleaners or salt), and water treatment facilities. 304 is okay for milder settings, but 316’s enhanced corrosion resistance is key where failure isn’t an option.

What environments are 316 stainless steel casters best suited for?
These 316 stainless steel casters excel in highly corrosive environments such as marine applications, chemical processing plants, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food processing facilities (especially those using caustic cleaners or salt), water treatment facilities, and any setting where exposure to chlorides, acids, or harsh cleaning agents is routine.

What is the weight capacity of the 316 stainless steel Model 9 casters?
Each Model 9 caster can handle up to 1200 pounds, depending on the wheel, making them rugged enough for heavy-duty industrial use.

What wheel sizes are available for the Model 9 casters?
The Model 9 uses 2-inch wide wheels with diameters of 4, 5, 6, or 8 inches, offering options for different load and height needs while keeping superior load distribution.

Why are Model 9 casters recommended only for manually moved applications?
These rugged cold forged casters are designed for manual movement, ensuring reliable performance without the need for powered systems, which fits most industrial setups where hand-pushing is standard.

How do the 2-inch wide wheels benefit my application?
The robust 2-inch wide wheels on Model 9 casters provide superior load distribution and stability, while maintaining smooth, reliable performance in demanding conditions.

Are 316 stainless steel casters worth the higher price compared to 304?
Yes, if you’re dealing with corrosive environments. The molybdenum in 316 boosts resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, especially in chloride-heavy spots. For marine, chemical, or food processing applications, the higher cost of 316 casters like Model 9 pays off with less maintenance and longer life.

What makes the Model 9 casters rugged and durable?
These casters are cold forged from 316 stainless steel, giving them the strength to handle heavy loads up to 1200 pounds in corrosive environments without breaking down.

Do the Model 9 casters come with seals on the swivel bearing?
Yes, they come default with rubber seals on the swivel bearing as well, helping protect against contaminants in harsh environments.

What is the optional top lock brake (TB) for the Model 9 casters, and how does it work?
The optional top lock brake (TB) is an add-on for our Model 9 casters, featuring a pedal on the side of the wheel that locks the wheel when engaged. It stops the wheel from rolling, adding stability for stationary use in tough environments like marine or chemical settings. The brake is straightforward to operate and keeps equipment s
