Description

Plate Caster Model 9 Rigid is the matching plate caster for the Model 9 Swivel Caster.  When manually moving equipment supported by four swivel casters it can be strenuous to control the direction you are pulling or pushing. Rigid casters help in controlling equipment being moved in straight line travel.  Machinery with both rigid casters can not move sideways.  Rigids are usually installed at the opposite end of the push handle and contain 2 legs perpendicular to the mounting plate.  Leg thickness is 1/4”.  The axle diameter is 1/2” long and is designed to use wheels with a hub width of 2 7/16”.  This caster is constructed from stamped steel.  Rigid Casters can carry more heft than swivel casters because they do not have an offset.  Other mounting plate sizes and wheel bearing types are available on request.

*This Plate Caster Model 9 contains the High Capacity Black Polyolefin With Precision Sealed Ball Bearings in the Wheel.

The Zinc-Plated Model 9 Caster with RK High Capacity Black Polyolefin Wheel is a versatile, heavy-duty industrial caster designed for high-capacity, sanitary mobility in demanding environments such as pharmaceutical labs, hospitals, food processing plants, schools, offices, retail, and workshops. Available as a swivel or rigid plate caster, it features a non-marking, glass-reinforced polyolefin RK Wheel with a 2-inch tread width, offered in 4”, 5”, 6”, or 8” diameters, capable of supporting up to 1200 lbs per caster on smooth floors. The RK Wheel’s injection-molded, glass-reinforced design provides extreme impact strength, unmatched chemical resistance, and steam cleaning compatibility, making it ideal for wet, chemically aggressive settings while maintaining hygiene standards, including NSF-rated compliance for food service. With a variety of bearing options—roller, Delrin, plain bore, ball, precision sealed ball, or stainless steel precision sealed ball bearings—and brake options like TB Top Lock, UFCB Face Contact Brake, TL Total Lock, or Swivel Locks, this caster ensures precise tracking, controlled movement, and safety for heavy loads. Its zinc-plated frame, mounted via a 4 x 4-1/2-inch top plate with a 2-5/8 x 3-5/8 to 3 x 3-inch bolt hole pattern, offers durability, though it may limit frequent washdowns compared to stainless steel.

This caster excels in environments requiring non-marking, chemically resistant performance, operating effectively from -20°F to 180°F (intermittent use up to 180°F), but it is not suited for freezers, high-heat applications, or rough, debris-covered floors. The RK Wheel handles static loads with minimal flat spotting risk, ideal for stationary equipment in hospitals or food processing plants, though prolonged standing in cold, dry conditions should be avoided to prevent brittleness. Maintenance is minimal, with precision sealed bearings requiring no upkeep and others needing occasional lubrication, while regular cleaning prevents debris buildup. Compared to iron wheel casters, the RK Wheel matches their 1200 lbs capacity while offering superior corrosion resistance and non-marking properties, making it a top choice for sanitary and institutional settings. Rigid casters enhance stability, ensuring straight-line tracking and safety for heavy carts, while the caster’s quiet operation and floor-protecting design benefit busy school corridors, retail stock carts, or workshop equipment racks, delivering reliable performance across diverse applications.
