Threaded Stem

A threaded stem caster mounts by screwing directly into a pre-tapped, threaded hole in the equipment's leg — no plate, no drilling, no separate hardware beyond the caster itself.

What a threaded stem is

Stem diameter and thread pitch must match the existing tapped hole exactly. It’s a common retrofit option since many furniture and equipment legs come pre-tapped from the factory. In the catalog, threaded stem casters are rated from roughly 105 up to 1,500 lbs.

When it matters

Replacing a worn threaded-stem caster, or equipping furniture and light equipment that already has a tapped socket.

What to check / common mistakes

Assuming “threaded” is one universal size. Thread diameter and pitch vary — a mismatched thread will either fail to seat or strip the socket. Match by the socket’s tapped size, or the old caster’s markings, not by eye.

Frequently asked questions

How do I measure a threaded stem?

Measure the stem's outer diameter and count threads per inch (or check the old caster's markings) to match thread pitch.

What if my old caster's threads are worn?

Match by the socket's tapped size instead, since a worn stem can be misleading — a hardware thread gauge helps if you're unsure.

Are threaded stem casters only for light duty?

No — the catalog's threaded stem range runs up to 1,500 lbs, though the most common applications are light-to-medium duty furniture and carts.
