A floor lock is a separate device mounted to a cart or piece of equipment that presses down and grips the floor directly, holding the whole unit stationary independent of the casters' own brakes.
Unlike a caster-integrated brake, a floor lock is its own accessory, usually engaged with a foot pedal or hand lever, providing a firmer, more positive hold than wheel or swivel locks alone — useful where equipment must not shift even slightly.
Equipment that must stay completely fixed during use — workstations, medical carts during procedures, or any setup where even minor movement is a problem despite having locking casters.
