Overall height is the total height of the caster from the floor to the top of its mounting plate or stem — the number that determines how tall your equipment sits once the casters are installed.
Overall height changes with wheel diameter and yoke design, so two casters with the same wheel size can still have different overall heights depending on construction.
Any application with a target equipment height — matching an existing cart height, clearing a doorway or dock, or keeping a work surface at a specific level.
Sizing wheel diameter without checking the resulting overall height. A capacity or rolling-performance upgrade to a bigger wheel can push equipment height out of spec for its intended use.
How is overall height measured?
From the floor to the top of the mounting plate or top of the stem, with the caster in its normal resting position.
Does overall height change if I switch wheel material?
It can, if the new wheel has a different diameter — always check overall height when comparing options, not just wheel diameter.
