Technical Specifications

Description
Matching rigid caster for Plate Caster Model 3. The mounting plate is 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” and the hole pattern is slotted to: 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” – 3” and is designed to use a mounting bolt size of 5/16”. This rigid caster uses a ⅜” diameter axle and nut and uses 1-¼” and 1-½” wide wheels. Multiple wheels and brake options are available. When manually moving equipment supported by 4 swivel casters it can be difficult to control the direction you are pushing or pulling. Rigid casters assist in controlling equipment being moved in straight line travel. Equipment with rigid casters installed can not move sideways. This plate caster is NSF listed.
Caster City manufactures this plate caster in Stainless Steel. Caster City also manufactures this plate caster in Economy Stainless Steel. Both casters are NSF listed and RoHS Compliant.
This injection-molded Polyurethane wheel can come in 4 different colors : red, gray, black, blue. The polyurethane tires are mechanically bonded to a polyolefin center. The wheel’s design features precision sealed ball bearings, and has a durometer of Shore 60D. We recommend these wheels for use above 32F and below 180F. They have injection molded polyurethane tires which are best for use on smooth floors. Avoid use in applications where this is abuse such as shock loads, impact, or floor obstructions, or static (standing) loads. Do not exceed 50% of the rated capacity of the wheel for applications that are parked for prolonged periods.
These caster wheels are non marking injection molded polyurethane tires mechanically bonded to a polyolefin center. They are especially suited for use in Research Laboratories, Hospitals, Food Service, Schools, Bakeries and other Institutional applications. These caster wheels are easier rolling than Gray Rubber on smooth floors. They withstand exposure to many chemicals and solvents. They can be used in industrial applications which do not involve shock, overloading, abuse, obstructions, poor floors or storage ( standing ) loads.
If you have a static (standing) load, or an application that requires a higher capacity polyurethane wheel in a swivel caster, please consider our liquid cast, Blue Polyurethane on Aluminum (“PA”) industrial caster wheel.
FAQ
Plate Caster Model 3 with Gray Polyurethane with Crown Tread (GPC) Wheels
What is the Gray Polyurethane with Crown Tread (GPC) wheel on the Plate Caster Model 3?
The GPC wheel is a non-marking, injection-molded gray polyurethane tire mechanically bonded to a polyolefin core, with a crown tread for ergonomic point contact. Featuring precision sealed ball bearings in the hub, thread guards, and a 95A durometer, it supports 350 lbs and suits hospitals, labs, and food service, but may flat spot if parked under loads over 175 lbs.
Why choose GPC Polyurethane Wheels for hospital or lab equipment?
The GPC’s non-marking polyurethane tire and ergonomic crown tread reduce push/pull effort, making it ideal for hospital carts or lab equipment. NSF-listed for dry settings, it protects floors and rolls smoothly in schools, bakeries, or food service with a 95A durometer for durability.
How does the GPC’s crown tread make it ergonomic for institutional casters?
The GPC’s crown tread provides point contact with the floor, reducing push/pull forces and easing direction changes from a stopped position. This ergonomic design minimizes user strain, perfect for carts in hospitals, labs, or food service on smooth floors.
Can GPC Polyurethane Wheels handle chemicals in research labs?
Yes, the 95A durometer gray polyurethane tire resists many chemicals and solvents in dry lab settings. Avoid harsh chemicals to prevent weakening the tire’s bond to the polyolefin core, ensuring longevity in research labs.
How easy is it to push the Plate Caster Model 3 with GPC Polyurethane Wheels?
The GPC wheel rolls easier than gray rubber, with its 95A durometer and crown tread reducing push/pull effort and improving direction changes. For manual pushing, keep loads below 50% of the 350 lbs capacity (175 lbs) on smooth floors for optimal ease.
Can I park the Plate Caster Model 3 with GPC Polyurethane Wheels under load?
Avoid parking under loads exceeding 50% of the 350 lbs capacity (175 lbs) for long periods. The polyurethane tire may develop flat spots, impacting performance in hospitals, bakeries, or food service settings.
Are GPC Polyurethane Wheels suitable for rough floors?
No, these 95A durometer polyurethane wheels are designed for smooth, dry floors without obstructions. They’re ideal for institutional settings like labs, hospitals, or schools, not abusive industrial environments.
What role do thread guards play in the GPC Polyurethane Wheels?
Thread guards on the GPC wheel prevent debris, like threads or dust, from clogging the precision sealed ball bearings in the hub, ensuring smooth rolling and longevity in dry settings like labs or food service areas.
Do GPC Polyurethane Wheels on the Plate Caster Model 3 require maintenance?
No, the precision sealed ball bearings in the hub are maintenance-free, and thread guards keep out debris, ensuring smooth performance on smooth floors in research labs, hospitals, or bakeries.
What are the mounting specs for the Plate Caster Model 3 with GPC Polyurethane Wheels?
The Plate Caster Model 3 has a 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” top plate with a slotted bolt hole pattern of 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” to 3”, using 5/16” bolts, fitting standard institutional carts or shelving.
Can the Plate Caster Model 3 with GPC Polyurethane Wheels be used in wet environments?
The zinc-plated steel frame isn’t suited for wet, washdown, or corrosive conditions. Use GPC polyurethane wheels in dry settings like labs, hospitals, or schools to prevent rust and maintain performance.
Is the Plate Caster Model 3 with GPC Polyurethane Wheels NSF-listed for food service?
Yes, the Plate Caster Model 3 is NSF-listed, ideal for food service, hospitals, or bakeries in dry environments. Confirm with the supplier that the GPC polyurethane wheels meet NSF standards.
How do I replace the GPC Polyurethane Wheel on the Plate Caster Model 3?
Match the wheel’s diameter (3”, 4”, or 5”), tread width (1-1/4” or 1-1/2”), and 3/8” axle. Choose a gray polyurethane wheel with a crown tread, precision sealed ball bearings, and thread guards for the same ergonomic, non-marking performance.
How do GPC Polyurethane Wheels compare to TPR wheels for institutional casters?
GPC polyurethane wheels, with a 95A durometer and crown tread, roll easier than TPR due to their harder surface and ergonomic design, but are less cushioned. They’re durable for hospitals or labs, though prone to flat spotting under prolonged loads, unlike TPR’s softer ride.
What are the advantages of the swivel design in the Plate Caster Model 3?
The swivel caster includes two ball bearings on hardened raceways and a metal dust cap, ensuring smooth, reliable operation while protecting the raceways from dirt and dust.
How should I maintain the Plate Caster Model 3 with Polyurethane on Polyolefin Wheel?
Minimal maintenance is required. The sealed ball bearings in the wheel and swivel raceways are protected by a metal dust cap and thread guards. Regularly inspect for wear and keep clean to ensure longevity.
