Description

Matching rigid caster for Plate Caster Model 3.  The mounting plate is 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” and the hole pattern is slotted to: 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” – 3” and is designed to use a mounting bolt size of 5/16”.  This rigid caster uses a ⅜” diameter axle and nut and uses 1-¼” and 1-½” wide wheels.  Multiple wheels and brake options are available.  When manually moving equipment supported by 4 swivel casters it can be difficult to control the direction you are pushing or pulling.  Rigid casters assist in controlling equipment being moved in straight line travel.  Equipment with rigid casters installed can not move sideways.  This plate caster is NSF listed.

These gray iron wheels are less expensive than ductile and forged steel wheels. They are practical for use with light loads on wood block or hardened smooth concrete in applications where they are not exposed to any abuse. On untreated concrete they tend to cause rapid floor deterioration. The only metal wheels we recommend for applications which may involve abuse are Ductile, Forged, or Machined Steel wheels. Abuse includes things like shock loads, impact, poor floors or floor obstructions, overload, and use with mechanically powered equipment.

Caster City manufactures this plate caster in Stainless Steel.  Caster City also manufactures this plate caster in Economy Stainless Steel.  Both casters are NSF listed and RoHS Compliant.

FAQ

Plate Caster Model 3 with CL Gray Iron Wheel

What is the Plate Caster Model 3 with CL Gray Iron Wheel?

The Plate Caster Model 3 with CL Gray Iron Wheel is a swivel plate caster featuring a gray iron wheel with a zinc-plated steel bracket. With a 1.25” tread width, 3”, 4”, or 5” diameters, plain bore, and 350 lbs capacity, this light duty industrial caster is a low-cost option for stationary, high-temperature equipment in dry industrial settings like warehouses, though it marks floors.

Why choose these industrial casters for stationary equipment?

This plate caster offers a budget-friendly solution for stationary loads up to 350 lbs, using a durable gray iron wheel and swivel plate caster bracket. Ideal for high-temperature or non-critical uses in dry warehouses or factories, it’s less expensive than steel casters, but industrial casters like ductile steel are better for abusive conditions.

How do these casters and wheels perform for high-temperature applications?

The CL Gray Iron Wheel in this light duty industrial caster handles temperatures from -40°F to 800°F, making it suitable for high-temperature equipment like industrial ovens in dry settings. The swivel plate caster’s bracket ensures stability, though floor marking limits its use on sensitive surfaces.

Why do these casters mark floors, and what’s a better alternative?

The gray iron wheel in this plate caster marks floors and deteriorates untreated concrete, making it unsuitable for sensitive surfaces. For floor protection, choose ductile or forged steel casters and wheels, which this industrial caster can support, ideal for more demanding settings.

Can these light duty industrial casters be used in wet environments?

No, the gray iron wheel and zinc-plated frame of this swivel plate caster are prone to rust and not suited for wet or washdown conditions. Use stainless steel casters for wet environments; this caster is best for dry settings like warehouses or workshops.

How easy is it to push the Plate Caster Model 3 with CL Gray Iron Wheel?

This light duty industrial caster rolls smoothly on wood block or hardened concrete at 350 lbs capacity due to the hard gray iron wheel and plain bore, with the swivel plate caster’s swivel action aiding maneuverability for stationary equipment in dry factories or warehouses.

Can I park this plate caster under load?

Yes, the hard gray iron wheel in this plate caster resists flat spotting under prolonged loads, ideal for stationary equipment in warehouses or factories. Avoid excessive static loads to maintain the caster’s performance.

Are these industrial casters suitable for sensitive floors?

No, the CL Gray Iron Wheel in this light duty industrial caster marks floors and damages untreated concrete, making it unsuitable for sensitive surfaces like tile or hardwood. Opt for non-marking casters and wheels like polyolefin for floor protection.

Do these casters and wheels require maintenance?

The plain bore in the CL Gray Iron Wheel may require occasional lubrication to maintain smooth rolling, unlike bearing-equipped casters. Regularly inspect and clean the swivel plate caster to ensure performance in dry settings like warehouses or factories.

What are the mounting specs for this plate caster?

The Plate Caster Model 3 has a 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” top plate with a slotted bolt hole pattern of 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” to 3”, using 5/16” bolts, fitting standard carts or equipment for industrial casters in dry industrial settings.

Is the Plate Caster Model 3 with CL Gray Iron Wheel NSF-rated for food service?

No, this light duty industrial caster is not NSF-rated, as gray iron marks floors and isn’t suited for sanitary settings like food service or labs. It’s designed for dry, non-critical applications like stationary warehouse equipment.

How do I replace the CL Gray Iron Wheel on this swivel plate caster?

Match the wheel’s diameter (3”, 4”, or 5”), 1.25” tread width, and 3/8” axle. Choose a gray iron wheel with a plain bore for the same low-cost performance of this plate caster, or upgrade to ductile steel for abusive conditions in dry settings.

How does this industrial caster compare to steel casters for stationary loads?

The Plate Caster Model 3 with CL Gray Iron Wheel is less expensive than ductile or forged steel casters but marks floors and isn’t suited for abuse. Both support 350 lbs, but steel industrial casters are better for rough conditions, while this light duty industrial caster suits stationary, high-temperature uses in warehouses.

Can this plate caster handle loads in high-temperature settings?

Yes, this swivel plate caster supports 350 lbs and handles temperatures up to 800°F, ideal for stationary, high-temperature equipment like industrial ovens in dry warehouses or factories, though floor marking limits its use on sensitive surfaces.

What are the advantages of the swivel design in this swivel plate caster?

The swivel plate caster’s bracket features two ball bearings on hardened raceways and a metal dust cap, ensuring smooth 360-degree movement with the CL Gray Iron Wheel, protecting raceways from dirt in dry industrial settings like warehouses or factories.

What is the temperature range for this light duty industrial caster?

This plate caster operates from -40°F to 800°F, making it suitable for high-temperature industrial environments like factories or warehouses, but avoid wet or sensitive floor settings due to the gray iron wheel’s limitations.
