Description

Swivel Radius for 3 inch PTB brake = 4-3/8″ ± 1/8″

Matching rigid caster for Plate Caster Model 3.  The mounting plate is 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” and the hole pattern is slotted to: 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” – 3” and is designed to use a mounting bolt size of 5/16”.  This rigid caster uses a ⅜” diameter axle and nut and uses 1-¼” and 1-½” wide wheels.  Multiple wheels and brake options are available.  When manually moving equipment supported by 4 swivel casters it can be difficult to control the direction you are pushing or pulling.  Rigid casters assist in controlling equipment being moved in straight line travel.  Equipment with rigid casters installed can not move sideways.  This plate caster is NSF listed.

Caster City manufactures this plate caster in Stainless Steel.  Caster City also manufactures this plate caster in Economy Stainless Steel.  Both casters are NSF listed and RoHS Compliant.

Polyolefin Caster Wheels are injection molded from a blend of thermoplastic polymers forming a one piece solid sanitary design.  Polyolefin caster wheels are resistant to most commonly encountered liquids.  Polyolefin caster wheels are a hard composition wheel, meaning they will not develop flat spots if left parked for a prolonged period of time.  Polyolefin caster wheels can come with either a flat tread face with a plain bore option, or a crowned tread face with either plain bore or sealed ball bearings.  Caster City manufactures this polyolefin wheel in 1-¼” wide and 2” wide.

FAQ

Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheel (Flat Tread, Plain Bore)

What is the PB Polyolefin Wheel on the Plate Caster Model 3?

The PB Polyolefin Wheel is a non-marking, injection-molded thermoplastic polymer wheel with a one-piece solid sanitary design. Featuring a flat tread, plain bore, 1-1/4” or 2” tread width, and 350 lbs capacity, it’s resistant to most liquids and ideal for sanitary settings like hospitals, food processing plants, or pharmaceutical labs, with a hard composition that prevents flat spotting.

Why choose PB Polyolefin Wheels for sanitary applications?

The PB Wheel’s solid, non-marking polyolefin design resists most liquids and maintains hygiene, making it NSF-rated for dry or lightly wet settings. Supporting up to 350 lbs, it’s perfect for carts in hospitals, food processing plants, or labs where cleanliness is key.

How does the PB Polyolefin Wheel’s hard composition prevent flat spotting?

The PB Wheel’s hard polyolefin composition resists deformation, preventing flat spots even when parked under heavy loads for long periods, unlike softer polyurethane wheels. This ensures reliable performance in sanitary settings like labs or food processing.

Can PB Polyolefin Wheels handle liquids in food processing plants?

Yes, the polyolefin material resists most commonly encountered liquids, making it suitable for lightly wet environments in food processing plants or hospitals. For full washdown, pair with a stainless steel frame to avoid rust on the zinc-plated frame.

Can PB Polyolefin Wheels handle chemicals in pharmaceutical labs?

Yes, the polyolefin wheel resists many chemicals and solvents in dry or lightly wet lab settings, ideal for pharmaceutical labs. Avoid harsh chemicals to maintain the wheel’s sanitary integrity and performance.

How easy is it to push the Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyurethane Wheels?

The PB Wheel rolls smoothly on smooth floors at 350 lbs capacity due to its hard polyolefin composition and plain bore design, making it suitable for manual pushing in hospitals, labs, or food processing plants.

Are PB Polyolefin Wheels suitable for rough floors?

No, these hard polyolefin wheels are designed for smooth, dry or lightly wet floors without obstructions. They’re ideal for sanitary settings like labs, hospitals, or food processing plants, not rough or abusive environments.

Do PB Polyolefin Wheels on the Plate Caster Model 3 require maintenance?

The plain bore may require occasional lubrication to maintain smooth rolling. Regularly inspect for wear and clean to ensure hygiene and longevity in sanitary settings like food processing or labs.

What are the mounting specs for the Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheels?

The Plate Caster Model 3 has a 2 3/8” x 3 5/8” top plate with a slotted bolt hole pattern of 1 3/4” x 2 7/8” to 3”, using 5/16” bolts, fitting standard carts or shelving in sanitary settings.

Can the Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheels be used in wet environments?

The polyolefin wheel is resistant to liquids, but the zinc-plated frame isn’t suited for prolonged wet or washdown conditions. Use a stainless steel frame for wet environments like food processing or hospitals to prevent rust.

Is the Plate Caster Model 3 with PB Polyolefin Wheels NSF-rated for food service?

Yes, both the Plate Caster Model 3 and the PB Wheel are NSF-rated, making them ideal for food service, hospitals, or pharmaceutical labs where hygiene and liquid resistance are critical.

How do I replace the PB Polyolefin Wheel on the Plate Caster Model 3?

Match the wheel’s diameter (3”, 3.5”, 4”, or 5”), 1-1/4” or 2” tread width, and 3/8” axle. Choose a polyolefin wheel with a flat tread and plain bore for the same non-marking, sanitary performance.

How do PB Polyolefin Wheels compare to nylon wheels for sanitary casters?

PB Polyolefin Wheels offer a sanitary, one-piece design and liquid resistance, but have a lower capacity and narrower temperature range than nylon wheels. They prevent flat spotting and are ideal for hospitals or food processing, while nylon suits higher loads and broader temperatures.

What are the advantages of the swivel design in the Plate Caster Model 3?

The swivel design features two ball bearings on hardened raceways and a metal dust cap, ensuring smooth 360-degree movement and protecting the raceways from dirt and dust in sanitary settings like labs or food processing plants.

Can PB Polyolefin Wheels handle heavy loads in hospital settings?

Yes, the PB Wheel supports up to 350 lbs per wheel and resists flat spotting, making it reliable for heavy carts in hospitals or labs, provided loads are on smooth floors and avoid shock or abuse.
