Dual Wheel casters provide a high load capacity with a minimum overall height. The larger footprint ( two wheels instead of one ) enhances stability and spreads the load over a larger floor area. The differential action inherent in all swivel dual wheel casters minimizes the effort required to change directions.
The capacity of the Model 2-50 plate casters can be up to 7,000 pounds per rigid caster depending on the wheels selected. As a general rule of thumb, when the total weight load to be moved exceeds 12,000 lbs, companies usually use some type of mechanically powered equipment to move the object. Since rigid plate casters cannot move sideways, if the item is supported on two swivel casters and two rigid casters, it is very strenuous to maneuver within a constrained space. Rigid casters are often picked with V-Groove wheels for straight line travel on inverted angle iron track.
